Onion Raita

Onion Raita or Pyaaz ka Raita is an easy vegetarian raita recipe where onions and mint are mixed with curd or yoghurt. Its cooling, refreshing and goes really well with biryanis, pulaos and spicy curries.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Curd or plain, unsweetened greek yogurt
  • ½ Teaspoon Roasted Jeera Powder
  • ¾ Teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ Teaspoon Sugar optional
  • ¾ Cup Sliced Red Onions
  • 1 Green Chilli finely chopped
  • ¼ Cup Mint Leaves roughly chopped
  • A Pinch Chilli Powder optional

Instructions

  • Whisk together curd, jeera powder, sugar (if using) and salt in a bowl until it is smooth and creamy
  • Add in sliced onions, green chilli and mint leaves and mix to combine. Sprinkle chilli powder on top and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Red onions work best for this recipe because they are pungent and on the spicier side
  • Mint helps add freshness and herbiness to this raita
