How To Make Kadha | Kashaya Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 cups water
  • 8-10 cloves
  • 3-4 cardamom
  • 8-10 peppercorns
  • 2 inch piece cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp ajwain
  • 1 ½ inch piece ginger
  • 8-10 tulsi leaves
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp jaggery
  • 1 tsp rock sugar optional

Instructions

  • In a mortar and pestle, smash together cloves, cardamom, peppercorns, cinnamon and ajwain to release their oils and flavour. Add this to the water.
    8-10 cloves, 3-4 cardamom, 8-10 peppercorns, 2 inch piece cinnamon, 2 tbsp ajwain, 3 cups water
  • Then smash together ginger and tulsi and add this to the water as well along with turmeric powder, jaggery and rock sugar.
    1 ½ inch piece ginger, 8-10 tulsi leaves, ½ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tbsp jaggery, 1 tsp rock sugar
  • Bring this to a boil and then simmer till the liquid reduces to half.
  • Strain and serve hot.

Notes

  1. The serving size is about ¼ cup per person 
  2. This can also be made and stored in the fridge and reheated to serve later
  3. Use the freshest ingredients possible for the best results
  4. Consume a little at a time throughout the day
