Microwave Matar Paneer

Can you believe that this matar paneer recipe comes together entirely in the microwave? One-pot, minimal post cooking clean up, and no one can tell this was cooked in the microwave!

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sunflower or any neutral flavoured cooking oil
  • ½ teaspoon jeera
  • 1 cardamom
  • 2 cloves
  • ½ inch cinnamon
  • ¼ cup finely chopped onions
  • ¾ teaspoon salt divided
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ginger garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon kashmiri chilli powder
  • ½ teaspoon red chilli powder
  • ½ teaspoon coriander powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin powder
  • teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 cup water divided
  • ½ cup tomato puree
  • cup curds whisked
  • ½ cup green peas fresh or frozen
  • 100 grams paneer cut into ½ inch cubes
  • teaspoon garam masala powder
  • teaspoon kasuri methi

Instructions

  • Add oil, jeera, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon to a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 2 ½ minutes.

  • Add chopped onions, ¼ teaspoon salt & microwave for 2 ½ minutes till onions get roasted and turn light brown. Add ginger garlic paste and microwave for ½ minute. Add dry spice powders - kashmiri chilli, red chilli, coriander, cumin, turmeric, ¼ cup of water, mix well. cover the bowl with a microwave safe lid with holes in it or microwave safe cling wrap with holes punched in. microwave covered for 1 minute.
    ¼ cup finely chopped onions, ¾ teaspoon salt, 1 ½ teaspoons ginger garlic paste, 1 teaspoon kashmiri chilli powder, ½ teaspoon red chilli powder, ½ teaspoon coriander powder, ¼ teaspoon cumin powder, ⅛ teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 cup water
  • Add tomato puree, green peas and microwave covered for 8 minutes till they are cooked well.
    ½ cup tomato puree, ½ cup green peas
  • Add ⅛ cup curds, ¼ cup of water and microwave covered for 4 minutes till oil separates from the masala.

  • Add paneer, garam masala, kasuri methi, microwave covered for 2 minutes and serve.
    100 grams paneer, ⅛ teaspoon garam masala powder, ⅛ teaspoon kasuri methi

Notes

  1. Covering with a lid with holes or cling wrap is important so heat does not escape while cooking and it fastens cooking process. 
  2. The lid or cling wrap must have holes in them, otherwise the water spills over & alters the cooking process.
  3. Keeping the bowl in the centre of the oven is important for uniform cooking.
  4. The microwave timings are suggested as per the microwave I use which may change slightly as per your microwave.
