This homemade coffee scrub takes all of five minutes, lasts a few weeks and is made with real, natural ingredients. It’s really the best way to use those coffee grounds that you normally discard. Use it as an exfoliator that’ll leave your skin feeling baby soft, smooth and shiny.

I have a love-hate relationship with summer.

I love the fact that I can gorge on Ice Cream, even for breakfast (Hello, Natural’s Tender Coconut- I’m looking at you!). Drink iced coffee all day and even use the coffee grounds to make me some awesome coffee scrub. Try out crazy granita flavors (Lemongrass – coconut – honey please), take cold showers without shivering. Use a blanket but stick one leg out (I CAN’T be the only one who does that). Eat Mangoes and wear Flip-Flops. Not necessarily together. But eating mangoes while wearing flip-flops is kinda fun.

What I hate about summer is how my skin gets- oily and kinda dirty. All that sweat and pollution clogs up the pores and gives me pimples. Yuck.

I like to exfoliate to keep them away. Not just the face but my whole body. Only once or twice a week. But it helps a lot and it improves circulation, reduces those ugly dimples (read: cellulite), gets rid of all the dead skin and makes me feel smooth and glowy. All summer ready.

By the way, I make my own scrub at home. That way I know what’s going on my skin and I don’t have any harmful chemicals to worry about. It takes five minutes, costs peanuts, lasts a month and smells absolutely yummilicious. I can almost eat it but I don’t, promise!

I used this with a slight modification: replace coconut oil with honey and add activated charcoal. I left it on my face for about 10 minutes, and then rinsed off. My skin feels amazing.

  2. Sure, you can substitute with jojoba oil, cocoa butter, avocado oil, shea butter or even olive oil. Coconut Oil tends to solidify at cool temperatures which olive oil won’t do, but it shouldn’t make too much difference to the scrub.

  3. Oh its you 🙂 Thanks for checking out the blog and writing in! I use oatmeal too, but mix it curds, milk and a teeny bit of honey. Did you stay in India before you moved? And where?

  4. Oh man I miss summer time sooooo much. All the things you’ve said x 1 million. Except the sweat face. That I don’t miss. I eavesdropped on this beauty school lady’s convo at a bus stop once and heard her say that you can buy regular face wash, add sugar to it et voila! Scrub! The coffee grounds thing was also on my list because another friend was wondering how to recycle her used coffee grounds. The scrub topic came up but I still haven’t tried it. I also use plain oatmeal with a litttle bit of water. All good ideas. You’re right to exfoliate only one-twice a week. I did it back-to-back for 3 days once and the lack of a protective layer on my skin caused me to breakout quite badly.
