Let’s admit it, we all love fast food. And one of our favourites is Dominos. I mean, have you tasted their garlic breadsticks? Made in that trademark dominos style, they’re insanely delicious, and don’t forget that addictive cheesy dip that keeps you coming back for more! Honestly, they’re one of the best breadsticks I’ve ever had. Plus, it’s such fun to tug and pull and fight over the breadsticks when you’re sharing with the folks!
The Dominos garlic bread recipe is something we’ve been trying to perfect. (That was our excuse to munch on several Dominos breadsticks) And we’re thrilled to finally share it with you guys. I can confidently say that this is so close to the original, and so simple. We’ve included the recipe for the seasoning mix, and tips on how to make the dough for soft garlic bread, and how to nail that dominos garlic bread crust. But we are showing you how to keep it simple with the plain garlic breadsticks too.
Garlic Bread Seasoning Mix
Guys thisss is what makes the Dominos garlic bread so distinctly different from the rest! This seasoning mix is EVERYTHING in this recipe, and it is so super simple. It’s really just about throwing in the ingredients together, and you can store this mixture and use it with bread toasts and sandwiches later! For the seasoning mix, we’ve used garlic granules, dried oregano, dried rosemary, dried basil, chilli flakes, ground pepper, and salt. You can buy these ingredients in any supermarket. If you can’t find garlic granules, use garlic powder instead, but granules are what we recommend. The seasoning mix is really the unsung hero of this garlic bread recipe. It’s got heat, herby notes, and that big hit of garlic!
The Dough for Dominos Garlic Bread
The dough for the garlic breadsticks is made with basic pantry items - all purpose flour, sugar, yeast, and a generous amount of the garlic seasoning mix. We’ve used milk to bring the dough together because dough made with milk is much softer than dough made with water. Get the Dough Right: There are some pressure points with this dough that you’ll need to get right.
- Knead the dough: You can either knead the dough by hand or use the stand mixer. If kneading by hand, it’ll take you about 7-8 minutes and about 4-5 minutes in the stand mixer till the dough has formed gluten sufficiently. You can test this with the windowpane test, or if you make an indentation in the dough, it should bounce back.
- Dough Texture and Consistency: When you’re done kneading, the dough should be soft and maybe slightly tacky, but should not stick to the surface anymore.
- Grated Garlic: We want that hit of pungent garlic from each breadstick. So apart from the garlic seasoning mix, adding grated garlic directly to the dough will elevate those garlicky flavours.
- Melted Butter: Melt butter before adding it to the dough, that’s the smarter way to incorporate butter. Adding melted butter lifts the dough and gives us the texture we want! It also keeps the dough really soft.
Garlic Breadsticks Done Two Ways
We’ve done this garlic bread two ways!
- Plain Garlic Bread: If you’re craving the OG breadsticks, the plain version is really simple to do. It’s all about the chewy, crunchy breadsticks and tonnes of garlicky flavour!
- Stuffed Garlic Bread: Take your breadsticks up a notch and stuff it with your favourite toppings! In this recipe, we made cheesy garlic bread with corn. We also smeared some cream cheese to get that burst of cheese with each bite! You can get creative and make your own customised version of garlic bread!
Garlic Bread Shape - That Trademark Dominos Style
How do I get that fluffy, crispy, semi-circle of garlic bread? Easy! All you have to do is roll out the garlic bread and fold it in half. This method works best when you’re making stuffed garlic bread. You can add the filling on one half of the bread and then fold the other half over it. When you fold the dough and bake it this way, the outside becomes really crispy and golden in colour. And the insides are a little moist and soft. With the plain garlic breadsticks, just roll it out in a semi circle and stretch it out with your hands till you get the desired shape.
Top Tips to Make Garlic Bread Dominos Style
- Sprinkle maize flour: Before baking the bread, sprinkle some maize flour on top. This is the secret ingredient to get that slight crunch on the crust that’s so typical of Dominos. And remember, a little goes a long way!
- Season the baking tray: And I mean that literally! We sprinkled some garlic seasoning mix and maize flour on the baking tray and placed the dough over it. This way, the bottom of the garlic bread also is well seasoned! So, season your tray!
- Sealing the dough: When you’re making stuffed garlic bread, ensure that you seal the edges of the dough well. If it’s not sealed properly, the stuffing could ooze out of the dough. We wanna keep all the goodness inside!!

Domino's Style Garlic Breadsticks - Two Ways
- 2 tablespoons Garlic Granules
- 1 tablespoon ground Black Pepper
- ½ tablespoon dried Oregano
- ½ tablespoon dried Basil
- ¼ teaspoon dried Rosemary
- ½ teaspoon Red Chilli Flakes
- ¾ tablespoon Salt
Corn and Cheese Filling
- ¼ cup Cream Cheese or cheese spread
- ⅓ cup Mozzarella cheese grated
- 2 tablespoons Sweet Corn Kernels
- 2 cups All Purpose Flour maida
- ¾ cup lukewarm Milk
- 2 tablespoons Sugar
- 1½ teaspoons Active Dry Yeast
- 1 tablespoon finely minced Garlic
- 2 tablespoons Butter melted + 2 tablespoons extra for brushing
- ¼ teaspoon Salt
- 1 tablespoon Oil
- Add all the ingredients into a mixing bowl. Mix and ensure it is well combined. Keep aside for later use.
- In a large bowl of a stand mixer or a mixing bowl (if kneading by hand), combine together flour, 2 tablespoons of the oregano seasoning, sugar and yeast. Add all the milk and begin to knead the dough using the dough hook attachment or by using your hands.
- Knead the dough for 6-7 minutes if using a stand mixer, or for 8-10 minutes if kneading by hand. Ensure to knead the dough till it is soft and supple. When it is almost done, add minced garlic, melted butter and salt, and knead for 1-2 minutes or until it has combined. Add a little flour, if necessary, while kneading. The dough will seem sticky at first but will change texture as you knead it.
- Once done, shape the dough into a large ball. Grease a bowl with oil. Place the dough in the bowl and turn it around so that its coated slightly with oil, cover it with a damp cloth and place it in a warm place to proof. This can take anywhere between 1-2 hours depending on where you are, and how warm the temperature is. The dough has to double in size. It took us an hour.
- Remove the dough from the mixing bowl and divide it into two halves.
- Plain Garlic Breadsticks: To make the plain garlic bread, roll one half out to form a semicircle, as shown in the video and keep aside.
- Stuffed Garlic Breadsticks: Roll out the other half into a circle. On the bottom half of the circle, spread out cream cheese, add grated mozzarella, sweet corn kernels and sprinkle some oregano seasoning leaving ¼ inch around the edges, as shown in the video. Pull the top half over the cheese and seal the edges by tightly pinching it with your fingers. Make sure it is tightly sealed to prevent cheese from oozing out.
- Preheat the oven to 180C.
- Grease and line a baking tray with parchment paper. Sprinkle maize flour and oregano seasoning. Place the shaped dough on the tray over it. Sprinkle some more maize flour and oregano seasoning on top of the dough. Brush it with cooled melted butter and sprinkle more seasoning or maize flour if necessary. Use a sharp knife and lightly mark straight lines along the bread for cutting after baking. Do not cut it all the way through before baking. Cover and allow to proof on the bench for 20 minutes further.
- Bake in a preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the tops are golden brown. Brush with melted butter and serve
- You can also proof the dough in the Instant Pot:
- Prep the Instant Pot for proofing the dough. Brush the base and sides of the inner pot with the remaining oil. Place the dough directly into the inner pot. Cover the Instant Pot with a glass lid or aluminium foil. Do not use the Instant Pot lid.
- Turn ON the Instant Pot and select the YOGURT function on LOW and set the timer to 30 minutes. Once the timer beeps, check to ensure that the dough has doubled in size and proved sufficiently. Press CANCEL and turn OFF the Instant Pot. Once the dough is proofed follow the instructions to bake as given above.
- The time it takes for your dough to rise will vary according to the conditions in which it is resting. This includes:
- Temperature - ideal temperature 80F/27C - 90F/32C
- Humidity - 60 to 80 percent humidity
- The baking time will depend on your oven. Bake at 180C for 30 minutes or until a golden brown.
- Do not skip the maize flour, as this gives it the crunchy exterior.
- You can use store bought oregano seasoning as well.
