If you’ve ever wished garlic bread came with a pizza topping, this air fryer pizza garlic bread is exactly what you’ve been looking for. Creamy, cheesy, garlicky, and the air fryer gets it perfectly crispy every time.

This air fryer pizza garlic bread has become the most requested snack in our house, and I totally get why. It’s garlic bread meets pizza in the best possible way! It’s got a crispy French loaf loaded with a creamy mushroom filling, pizza sauce, melty mozzarella, and olives. Making garlic bread in the air fryer from scratch sounds like effort, but the filling takes about 10 minutes, and the air fryer does the rest in under 5.
We make this for movie nights, when friends come over, and honestly, sometimes just because someone in the house mentions garlic bread and I can’t help myself. If you’ve loved our dominos style garlic breadsticks, you’re going to really enjoy this one.
Ingredients for Air Fryer Pizza Garlic Bread
French Bread: Half a loaf, sliced vertically. The crusty exterior crisps up beautifully in the air fryer.
Mushrooms: Thinly sliced. They form the base of the creamy filling.
Pizza Sauce: Combined with the mushroom bechamel to give the filling its pizza flavour.
Milk & All-Purpose Flour: These come together to make a quick bechamel that binds the filling and makes it creamy.
Mozzarella Cheese: Grated and sprinkled on top for that melty, stretchy finish.
Black Olives: Sliced and scattered on top. They add a nice salty bite.
Garlic: Finely chopped and sautéed right at the start.
Italian Seasoning: For that herby, pizza-shop aroma.
Oil: Olive oil or any neutral cooking oil.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use regular bread instead of a French loaf?
You can, but French bread works best because it has a sturdy crust that holds up in the air fryer and creates that perfect crispy base. Softer breads like sandwich bread or brioche will get soggy under the filling.
Can I make this in the oven instead of the air fryer?
Yes. Preheat the oven to 200°C and bake for about 8-10 minutes till the cheese is melted and the bread is crispy. The air fryer is quicker and gives a crispier result, but the oven works well too.
Can I add other toppings?
Absolutely. Bell peppers, corn, jalapeños, onions, or even some shredded chicken all work really well. Just don’t overload the bread, or the filling won’t cook evenly.
Can I use store-bought pizza sauce?
Yes, any store-bought pizza sauce works perfectly here.
Richa’s Top Tips
- Spread the filling on the bread only right before air frying. If you do it too early, the bread absorbs the moisture from the filling and goes soggy. Keep the filling ready and assemble just before it goes into the air fryer.
- Make indentations in the bread with a spoon before loading the filling. This creates little pockets that hold the filling in place and stop it from sliding off while it cooks.
- Don’t overdo the flour in the bechamel. A minute of sautéing is enough. Over-frying the flour makes it bitter, and that bitterness will carry through the whole filling.
Storage Tips
- The filling: Can be made ahead and stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. This is great for when you want to assemble and air fry quickly without any prep.
- The assembled bread: Don’t store once assembled. The filling makes the bread soggy over time. Always assemble right before air frying.
- Leftovers: If you have leftover slices, reheat in the air fryer at 180°C for 2 minutes to crisp them back up. Avoid the microwave as it makes the bread chewy and the cheese rubbery.
Serving Ideas
This air fryer pizza garlic bread is a perfect snack on its own, but here are a few ways to build a bigger spread around it:
- With Roasted Tomato Pesto Soup: Cheesy garlic bread dunked into a warm bowl of tomato soup. Does it get more classic than that?
- With White Sauce Pasta: If you’re doing an Italian-themed dinner at home, this garlic bread on the side of a creamy pasta is the perfect combination.
- With Mocha Lava Cake: For a complete movie night menu, start with the garlic bread and end with a warm, gooey lava cake.
Did You Know?
The bechamel sauce in this recipe is one of the five “mother sauces” of French cooking. It’s the base from which dozens of other sauces are made, including cheese sauce (mornay), mustard sauce, and cream sauce. At its simplest, it’s just flour, fat, and milk, but what it does in this recipe is act as a creamy binder that holds the mushrooms and pizza sauce together and stops the filling from drying out in the air fryer.

Once you’ve had garlic bread with a creamy pizza filling straight from the air fryer, the plain butter and garlic version starts to feel a little incomplete. This recipe has spoiled us in the best way. Make the filling ahead if you want to keep things easy, and just assemble and air fry when you’re ready.
