If you're a banana lover, here's an Indian dessert that will make your sweet tooth really happy! These Spiced Indian Banana Fritters are a great way to use overriped bananas and it is really hard to not over stuff yourself with these because they have a really crunchy crust and are warm and soft on the inside.
Say hello to the food blogger who loves buying bananas by the dozen and then leaves them sitting on the counter till they are too ripe to eat. Which is why said food blogger also needs to come up with recipes to use overripe bananas. Enter ---- Spiced Indian Banana Fritters, created to save lazy food bloggers like me from too many overripe bananas!
I saw this recipe in a magazine so long ago, that I have vague memories of it. A quick search on google showed me multiple ways to make banana fritters. The most common being slicing, dipping them in batter and just deep frying.
But the recipe I remembered was different, better. More like cake and bread combined. Banana flavoured cake and bread combined. With cardamom and jaggery. More Indian. Flavours that make you think of being in Kerala on a holiday, with random trips to the beach, sipping on coconut water and eating bananas? Strike that. More like sipping on coconut water and swaying to the waves. Eating hot curry, and washing it all down with some beer. Of lazy hammock afternoons, snoozing to a book on the lap and the wind playing with your hair.
I'm dying to go on a holiday now. But I'm going to settle for these spiced banana fritters. Which are crisp and crackling on the outside, but really soft and spongy on the inside - like warm banana bread with a crust. And easy because you can't go wrong with this dough. I know. Because for some reason (called Denver) I ended up making them thrice in 12 hours. He kept gobbling them up before I could take any pictures guys! Life of a food blogger and her husband, I tell you!
If you have an overripe banana situation too, I have two more recipes that are just waiting to be tried:
Tempted to leave those bananas sitting on the counter to ripen? Meeee tooooo!

We've been known to lose a few bananas now and them. Usually I freeze them, but when I don't I make muffins or bread. Now that I have this recipe I'll be sure to give them a try. Bananas and cardamom rule!

Saw a lot of Kerala recipes for banana fritters. I think mine originates from Coorg, but I just put stuff together and fried them. This is such a forgiving recipe. They tasted great even when I tried them without the baking soda, but just didn't puff up as much.
