As someone who loves pizza anytime, anywhere, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the next recipe in my Air Fryer January series is pizza. I made this for the first time a few weeks ago when I had some friends over for movie night. To tell you that they loved it would be such an understatement! No one could believe that I had made the pizzas at home from scratch. I used an air fryer to make my pizza, and I couldn’t be happier with the results!
Even though I made the base at home using my no yeast pizza dough, the best part about making pizza in an air fryer is that a store-bought base works really well too. So believe me when I say that making pizza in an air fryer is totally game-changing!
In case you aren’t already convinced, here are some more reasons why you’re going to love making pizza in an air fryer:
- Super quick. Air fryers don’t require as long as ovens to preheat. Plus they are have much faster cook time than ovens or stovetops. Which means your pizza is ready in minutes!
- Makes for a perfect weeknight dinner, thanks to its quick cook time.
- The base always turns out so crispy and the air fryer melts the cheese perfectly too.
- Works well with store-bought pizza bases as well, which means that with just a few toppings, you can have a homemade pizza ready faster than takeout.
- The smaller size of the pizza means you can customise the toppings according to each individual’s preferences.

How to make air fryer pizza
Here's a step-by-step collage showing you how to make air fryer pizza:
1. Divide the dough into three parts. This will make approx three 6-inch pizzas at ¼ inch thickness. Form the dough into a ball, dust it with some dry flour and roll it out.
2. Place the rolled-out pizza dough on a parchment paper sheet and prick it with a fork.
3. Transfer to a pre-heated air fryer and bake for 2 minutes on each side at 180C
4. Repeat this step for the remaining dough. You can store these pre-baked pizza bases in the freezer for up to two weeks when stored in an air-tight zip-lock bag.
5. Spread some pizza sauce on top of the base, add your toppings and grated cheese.
6. Brush with olive oil around the edges.
7. Transfer back into the air fryer basket. Bake for 10-12 minutes at 170C or till the cheese has melted and the base is slightly crisp.
8. Serve immediately. Repeat with the remaining dough.
Top tips to make the best air fryer pizza
- If using a store-bought pizza base, make sure to pick a size that will fit into your air fryer.
- The cook time for your pizza may change according to the dough you are using. Store-bought pizza bases will cook a lot faster as they are pre-baked, while the homemade dough may take slightly longer.
- If you are using fresh dough, first cook it in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes before adding the toppings. This will prevent the cheese and other toppings from getting overcooked.
- Preheat the air fryer for just a couple minutes before adding in the pizza. Although this isn’t a necessity, preheating your air fryer helps in cooking it more evenly.
- Line your tray with parchment paper before putting the pizza into the air fryer. This will prevent things from sticking to the tray and make lifting it out and cleaning so much easier.
This air fryer pizza is super customisable, so you can get really creative with the toppings and add anything you like. Some of my favourite pizza toppings include:
- Sliced Onions
- Sliced Bell Peppers
- Mushrooms
- Sausages
- Cooked Chicken
- Paneer
- Olives
- Jalapenos
- Pineapple
- Ham
- Pepperoni
- Corn
Frequently asked questions:
- Can you cook pizza in an air fryer?
Yes, absolutely! Air fryers are nothing but countertop ovens, so it is totally possible to cook a pizza in it. In fact, air fryers cook some of the best, crispiest pizzas I have ever tried and I would highly recommend making one ASAP. Plus, since it’s smaller than a traditional oven, it takes much less time to cook too.
- How long does it take to cook a pizza in an air fryer?
This really depends on the air fryer you have and the dough you are using. But to give you an idea, cooking a pizza in an air fryer should take you anywhere between 10-15 minutes. A good indication to find out if your pizza would be to check if the base is golden-brown and the cheese has completely melted.
- What size pizza fits in an air fryer?
This is again something that will depend on the size of the air fryer you have. But generally speaking, individual-sized, 6 or 7-inch pizzas should fit into most air fryers.
Who would have thought making pizza at home would be this simple? Additionally, this is such a fun and innovative way to use your air fryer. So, if you’ve never thought of using your air fryer to make pizza, I think it’s time you do. Make it for the next movie or pizza night, and I promise everyone will be asking for more!
